Stamp Crazy with Alison

Crab & Company

March 30, 2007 by Alison Solven

Hello Stampers,

I have a wonderful customer, Andrea, who loves to have classes that revolve around a specific stamp set – buy the set and get the class for $5.  Her choice this time was Crab & Company from the Spring Mini Catalogue.  So Andrea and 4 of her friends got together to make 4 projects using this adorable set.  And the best part was at the end of the night they got to take the set home with them.

One of the cards used both sizes of Oval Punches and Circle Punches and I showed the group how to easily line up the punches to make it look layered.  Here’s how to do it….

100_4060 First, punch out 3 circles using the 1 1/4" circle punch.   I use a post-it-note because the end is "sticky" and this makes it easier in the following steps.  Line up the punch with the sticky end of the strip.

Next place these circles on your paper where you want to punch 100_4061 your holes.  I just eyeball the placement but if you feel more comfortable use a ruler for alignment.

100_4062

Line up the same punch (1 1/4") over top of the post-it-note circles and punch the circles out of your cardstock.

Take your next piece of cardstock (the top layer of the card) and place the bottom layer (in this 100_4063 case the Tempting Turquoise punched piece) on top.  Place the punched out post-it-note circles in the spaces on the Tempting Turqoise piece.  100_4064

Remove the Tempting Turquoise piece leaving the circles in place.  Use the larger circle punch (1 3/8") to punch out the circles from the Sahara Sand (top layer) cardstock.  You will position the 1 3/8" punch over the post-it-note pieces (the punch will be slightly larger than your punched piece and this will leave a space around the small circle.

100_4066 This is how it will look.  Now repeat with the small and large Oval Punches and then layer the Sahara Sand on top of the Tempting Turquoise cardstock.

This is how it will look – there will be a small Turquoise frame inside the Sahara Sand circles.  100_4067

100_4057 And the final result is this wonderful and cute card that I CASED from Chris Smith on Splitcoast Stampers!  Gotta love those demonstrators who share their talents with us so freely and generously!  I’ve added additional samples using the Crab & Company set in my Spring Mini Photo Album.  Enjoy.

Happy Stamping,

Alison

What a great tip! I have always had a hard time lining punches up but this makes it so simple. It would work with squares as well!
