Stamp Crazy with Alison

We are the Champions!

September 7, 2008 by Alison Solven

East Van Halen 1-1 Here's the championship picture of Ian's adult co-ed indoor soccer team – they won the Division 1 championship a few weeks ago.  Ian is the 2nd from the left.  It was such an awesome game because we were the underdogs in a lot of respects but they dug deep and won a resounding victory.  The thing I like most about the men and women Ian plays with is their competitive spirit tempered with their encouragement and support for each other – they have become great role models for him.   They never lose their tempers with each other and seem to really have a lot of fun on the pitch.

Congratulations East Van Halen (don't ask, no one seems to know the origin of the team name).

Today we took Ian to get his suit for graduation – he doesn't actually graduate until June but the formal pictures are taken now (believe it or not) and my husband wanted to take him to a real "tailor" and not just a department store.  Des felt that every "man" needs a good suit and that's what he got – a beautiful suit, gorgeous shirt and fabulous tie….he looked so handsome and grown up – I was thinking back to when he was little and "graduating" from pre-school.  It doesn't seem that long ago.  They played a song that went like this "turn around and they're one, turn around and they're four, turn around and they are young men going out of the door" – I remember my Mom and I bursting into tears. LOL  And now he is almost going out of the door.  Yikes!

Happy Stamping, soccer, gardening or whatever you are up to this weekend!

Alison

    Hi Alison,
I know how you feel about your Son growing up and wondering where time went. Thomas is 20 now, Brennan graduates this year too and
Justin start’s high school next year. I ask my self everyday where does time go. The song you wrote about brought tears to my eyes. I remember when Thomas tried his tux on in the store and came out of the dressing room, I gasped at how grown up he looked.I had to walk away so he wouldn’t see the teard in my eyes. Even though Thomas has grown into such a great young man and I don’t see hem alot, he still gives me a hug and tells me he loves me for no reason. I guess they will always be our babies!!!

Back to school and back to soccer for us too. My daughter just had her first soccer game of the season today (my husband is coach, and I seem to be manager by default). I didn’t know there was a co-ed indoor soccer league for adults. Inspiring!

And congratulations on those 25 years!
