Hello Stampers,
We had a great Canada Inks Up! meeting on Wednesday night (the name of my team of demonstrators) and had some awesome swaps. Each participant in the swap makes 10 identical card fronts using only Stampin' Up! products and brings them to the meeting. We then exchange (swap) them out for 10 different card fronts. That way we each end up with a variety of samples to share with our customers. It's like a "cookie exchange" for cards! Here's some great swaps from my team members:
This was my swap card. It uses the fabulous (and masculine) stamp set called Happiness is a Journey with the Soot Technique.
I demonstrated the Soot Technique for those in attendance.
It's not difficult to do but you have to be careful. Start with a really cheap candle (those emergency ones work well) and a piece of glossy cardstock (must be glossy!) Hold the glossy cardstock over the flame so that the flame actually touches the paper. Stay away from the edges of the paper or you may catch it on fire (reminds me that you might want to work near a sink in case you have to drop your paper into a safe basin). Move the cardstock over the flame depositing the "soot" all over until you have a nice covering of "black" or "gray" on your paper. BE very CAREFUL not to touch the black as it will smudge and make a mess. Carefully lay your piece down and take a stamp (negative impression stamps work really well for this technique) and stamp it into the soot. The stamp will remore the soot leaving this awesome impression – doesn't it look like a photograph? You will have to spray the finished image with a fixtative of some kind. I use Acryllic Sealer.
Here are a few more swap samples – more to follow tomorrow….

This month my business talk focussed on Tax Tips and I had a great set up with Power Point slides(thanks to my sister Mo who presented at Leadership) on a huge screen so everyone could see (thanks to my techno genious husband). I think I was able to give them some helpful hints about what can and can't be claimed as a business expense – home based businesses are an awesome way to make money and to expense some of your costs!
Speaking of downline meetings, swaps and tax write-offs….Stampin' Up! has an awesome deal for new demonstrators during Sale-a-bration (Feb 1 – March 31). The Starter Kit is on sale for 15% off ($209 plus PST) AND they are adding any stamp set from the catalogue for FREE too.
If you'd like more information about becoming a demonstrator and joining my great team, Canada Inks Up!, please email for more information. It's easy – go to my website at www.asolven.stampinup.net and click on Join Now in the upper right hand corner. To gain access to the Online Demonstrator Signup form type canadainksup in the password block. I'd be happy to walk/talk you through the process. While I live in British Columbia I have successful coached and mentored demonstrators from coast to coast, north to south – with the internet, skype, email and good old fashioned telephone there is no obstacle to distance.
More swaps tomorrow…
Happy Stamping!
Alison
