Hello Stampers,
When I was young we always recited the poem written by Dr. John McRae during World World 1 called 'In Flanders Fields" which is where the tradition of wearing poppies originated for Canadians. At that time we remembered those that sacrificed their lives for our freedoms during that war and World War 2 and Korea. Now, in 2010, there are young people from our country and others fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq and November 11th is a day to think about their service to our country.
A few years ago, NBC News did a story on our Highway of Heroes, – please take a moment to watch this piece and take a moment today at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to remember all those who gave, and continue to give, their service and lives so that we may enjoy our way of life today.

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Lest we forget…
Alison
