Hello Stampers,
Okay – I'm hijacking a post to be a proud Mama for a minute. As many of you know our daughter, Carly, has been working in Toronto for the past 1 1/2 years. Boy we still miss having her around but she is following her dream to work in the gaming industry. So with her degree in Video Game Art & Design tucked under her arm she headed for the big city and hasn't looked back! She is working her way up to her dream job of environment artist one day!
In the meantime she has been working for Ubisoft with the Splinter Cell Blacklist team and yesterday the game went GOLD – which to lay people like me means it's SHIPPED. This is a very big deal in the life of a game launch and it will be available for sale on August 20th. Her name will be in the credits too which is fun. It's also the first game produced out of the Toronto studio so they are all very excited there.
She has worked long hours, especially over the past six months, sometimes 12 hour days including weekends to meet their target launch date.
So proud of her – she's kinda living her dream…gotta put in your dues in this industry and she'll get there one day! In the interim she loves the company she works for and her co-workers which is a lot in this day and age! They have a very supportive environment and even though hard work is expected it's also rewarded with fun in house activities (theme lunches, cupcakes, and nerf wars) and other team building efforts (paint ball, pub night and more). They even brought in lunch time yoga to help the team with stress – where in the corporate world do they think to offer this for free to their staff?
Here's a link to Ubisoft's website and more information about this game.
And here's a picture I found in my stash of some art she did a few years ago – apparently this has 75 layers in Photoshop – I'm not sure I completely get it but I think that's a lot! LOL
Happy Gaming….I'll be back to my regular scheduled programming (which would be stamps) in my next post.
Alison
