What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?

December 20, 2007 by Alison Solven

20 Dec

Hello Stampers,

I was just checking my "stats" on my blog and noticed that over 100 people visit my blog on average each day but I only hear from a few of you (thanks to those of you who have sent me private emails about my dog or to comment on my "embrace the beauty of your child" comments) so I thought I’d see if I could get some of you in cyber space to post.

A_christmas_carol_2  The topic is "What’s you favourite Christmas Movie?"  Is it the original Christmas Carol with Alaistar Sims – my sisters and I were always terrified when the last ghost arrived all draped in black and we could recite the entire dialogue almost word for word each year.  Or is it "It’s a Wonderful Life" – I still cry when Harry toastsIts_wonderful_life_2   George with ‘To my big brother George, the richest man in town" or is it "The Christmas Story" – "you’ll shoot your eye out kid" still makes me laugh.

Of course there’s Rudolph and Frosty and what about the Grinch?

Your turn…what one is your absolute favourite?  If I have to pick just one…. I’ll have to stick with A Christmas Carol because I love the movie but it’s my favourite because it evokes memories of my childhood Christmas’ with my family in Ontario.

Happy Stamping,

Alison

White Christmas is a family favourite around here – my sister and I do a horrible version of Sisters 😉

National Lampoon Christmas Vacation – Classic 80’s – has to be watched every year on Christmas Eve.

My all time favourite is: It’s a Wonderful Life. For special reasons, I love the scene
where the little girl says, When you hear a
bell ring, an angel has new wings. I have
two little bells on my tree.

Love all the movies you mentioned and watch them all but the one I really love is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. My sons and I watched it every year together and now that they are grown up they watch it at their places. The movie makes me laugh to tears every time. My husband and I now watch it every year when we wrap gifts – my hubby is my “Sparky” right here in White Rock.

How could I forget White Christmas? My sister and I sing “Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters” all the time. LOL

And National Lampoon Christmas Vacation is also a favourite around here – love when the squirel gets in the house and the neighbours with their perfect house. I used to have a neighbour that rivaled the lights on the house – he even put Santa’s sleigh on the roof – we used to call him Griswald.

    Thanks for sharing your stories!

I’ve never posted a comment here before but must say I absolutely love all of your creations!

As far as movies go, my favorite would be a tie between Miracle on 34th street and the George C Scott version of A Christmas Carol!

Thanks for all of the creative inspiration.

I love ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and James Stewart was such a hunk back in those days. Our family is hoping CBC will re-run Wind at My Back’s Christmas movie this season, as we just watched the whole series over again. Our kids weren’t yet born when it originally aired, and now they were old enough to enjoy the series.

    Merry Christmas!

    Hi Deb,

I loved that series Wind At My Back – Mrs. Bailey is played by Shirley Douglas who is Keifer Sutherland’s mother – I never think she gets enough recognition. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the special.

Hi. It’s my first post here, too. My fave Christmas movie is White Christmas. The costumes, the songs and the scenery! …we’ll follow the old man wherever he may go, wherever he may go…..
    Merry Christmas.
