Hello Stampers,

This month the Totally Techniques Design Team was challenged to use the Bouncing Brayer Technique.  I must confess that I have never tried this technique before and, honestly, had no idea what it was or how to do it.  That's what makes a challenge fun – it me pushes to learn new stamping techniques.  This technique was so easy and lots of fun!

I chose three colours for the first card – So Saffron, Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry.  Here's how you do the technique:

  • Ink up your brayer with the lightest colour (So Saffron) – remember to roll "through" your pad so you get complete ink coverage
  • "Bounce" your brayer across the paper – basically I just touched the brayer to the paper and then kept moving it around the paper – since I wanted a sunburst look I found the center of the paper and used that as my focus point
  • Clean and ink with Daffodil Delight and add it beside the first set of "lines" and repeat with Crushed Curry
  • Ink up your brayer again with the So Saffron and fill in any white space

Then I cut out the shape of the sun with the Sunburst Thinlits Die.  The words are from the Sunburst Sayings Stamp Set (bundle up the stamps and die and save 15%).  I backed the sunburst with Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper and added some Rhinestones for some sparkle!

I thought I would also try it with different colours and used Pool Party, Soft Sky and Crumb Cake on my next cards.  I did roll off some colour before applying it to the cardstock as I found the colours were too bold for the effect I was trying to achieve.

I love the Wetlands Stamp Set and thought the sandpipers would be perfect for this beach scene.  I just added "bands" of colour with my brayer and the inks.

Hopefully you can see them better in this close up picture.

I hope you'll try and make one of these cards yourself – such an easy way to create an interesting background!

wow, wow and wow, I love first that you colored in the background, I needed to do that to blend my “bouncing” better, haha, and then that you cut it out with the starburst Framelit, great idea Alison and it turned into another Fabulous Card.
