Color Without Borders – Beautiful Day

Every third Tuesday of each month Patsy Waggoner and I will share a card using a colour palette we've chosen and share them with you on our blogs. Our series is called Color Without Borders.

Our March palette includes some of my favourite colours including the purple hues that I haven't used a while.

My card uses Beautiful Day stamp set featured in the Occasions Catalogue and features this beautiful butterfly image. When I say the colours I thought "Easter" but I also knew I would ave to add some Lemon Lime Twist to give the card some lighter tones.

MEASUREMENTS:

• Whisper White Thick card base: 11" x 4 1/4"
• Elegant Eggplant: 5 1/4" x 4"
• Wisteria Wonder: 5" x 3 3/4"; scrap
• Watercolor Paper: 4 7/8" x 3 5/8"

PUT IT TOGETHER: 

1. Fold Whisper White Thick card stock in half to form card base.
2. Mount the Elegant Eggplant layer on the front of the card.
3. Stamp the butterfly images two times on the Watercolor Paper in Versamark ink and apply White Emboss Powder. Heat set.
4. Sprintz the entire piece of Watercolor Paper with water.
5. Add Wisteria Wonder, Elegant Eggplant, Lemon Lime Twist and Island Indio ink with an Aqua Painter letting it spread naturally over the piece.
6. Let the piece dry completely.
7. Mount the Watercolor Paper to the Wisteria Wonder mat.
8. Wrap the White Organza Ribbon around the pieces and tie in a bow towards the left side.
9. Glue the pieces to the card front.
10. Stamp sentiment in Versamark ink on scrap of Wisteria Wonder and apply White Emboss Powder.  Heat set.
11. Punch out with Classic Label Punch.
12. Pop up sentiment with Stampin' Dimensionals on the ribbon.
13. Add two pearls to the label, one on each side of the sentiment.

When you watercolour you can soften up even really strong colours like the Island Indigo in my card.  I love the Emboss Resist technique I used on this card which is when you emboss and image and then apply the ink.  The embossed image will resist the ink.
